With all that action the night before, it wasn't easy to get the kids up. But, we had some unfinished business in Boston to take care of. First up was the Boston Tea Party Museum and Ship. This is another reenactment kinda' thing, but the kids loved it! They got to learn about Samuel Adams and Paul Revere, and what part the Boston Tea Party played in the lead up to the Revolution. It was a great history lesson, where everyone in the audience gets to play a part in the action. They loved throwing the tea overboard into Boston Harbor!
I wanted to get on the road by 4pm, so we didn't have a whole lot of time to kill. After the Tea Party museum, we had just enough time to see the Old State House before leaving town. The Old State House is a 300 year old building that was important because it was at the epicenter of the events that started the American Revolution. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was first read to the people of Boston from the Old State House balcony. It's a cool old building, to say the least!
Getting out of Boston was much easier that I thought. Before we knew it, we were in New Hampshire! Today was one of those days where I was flexible with our final destination. That said, we had a lot of ground to cover over the course of the next couple days, so the more we could cover today, the better.
Our main goal was to get deep enough into Maine so the kids could say they have been there. To me, if we had dinner there, that would be good enough... If we could get farther, that was fine too!
Just short of the Maine boarder, I jumped off the highway and drove through a little town in New Hampshire called Portsmouth. As we drove through this cute little town, it was apparent that it would be a great place to stop for dinner. It had cute shops and restaurants, and it was a Saturday night, so people were out and about. Live music filled the air. Jaden then saw a sushi restaurant and was immediately hungry... We stopped to check it out. I mean, who am I to say no to sushi. He really had to twist my arm!
The sushi was amazing. Catch of the day! During dinner, it was a unanimous decision that this is where we were staying tonight. I found a great hotel two blocks away on hotels.com, and just like that, we had a home for the night!
Now back to getting to Maine... After we checked into the hotel, we decided to hit the town. Maine was literally across a draw bridge, just a few blocks away from our hotel, so we decided to walk to Maine. In fact, as we began to cross the bridge, Mazzy decided it would be a good idea for her to carry her brother from one state to another. He liked the idea, of course, so that's what she did!
After a quick picture in Maine, we headed back across the bridge to the New Hampshire side. We closed out the amazing evening with a little ice-cream and called it a night.
