Waking up to the brilliance of Niagra Falls outside your hotel window is pretty awesome! Today, we had one agenda. To see the falls from as many different angles as possible!
I’m not sure if IHOP is a Canadian company, but I counted four of them within walking distance from our hotel. Generally, when I travel I like to eat local. But when you are traveling with an 8 and 11 year-old, those options narrow quickly… This all said, one of the four IHOPs happened to be way up in the Tower Hotel. The sign said “Falls View.” So, who wants to eat at IHOP…?
The Tower Hotel looks more like a small Space Needle-ish kinda’ structure, than it does a hotel. The view from IHOP was spectacular! We enjoyed our pancakes and waffles (in Canada they use real whip cream), but for me, it was all about the view!
After brunch, we headed down to the falls. Being that so close to these majestic falls at the water’s edge is pretty awesome., but at the same time, slightly unnerving... It was hot, so the mist coming up from the water pounding on the rocks bellow felt good. It was so misty that it was almost like rain!
The walking and the heat was starting to get to the kiddos. These SoCal babies aren’t used to the humidity. Well, neither am I. So back to the hotel we went for a dip in the pool. I wonder how the weather is in Florida right now…?!
The hotel pool wasn’t’ exactly what I had envisioned. With the heat outside, I was thinking sunny, with poolside lounge chairs, umbrellas in Mai Tais and shaved Hawaiian ices for the kids. But instead, it was indoor pool, that was not heated, with an adjoining hot tub that was lukewarm. I’m not complaining, it’s just that I had a completely different vision in mind… This all said, the kids had a great time swimming, and I hit the hot tub. Ahhhh.
This was the last night of our journey, so I wanted to do a special dinner for the kids. They wanted sushi, so we walked to the closest sushi bar we could find. The only problem is that it was in a Casino, so the kids couldn’t get in. JJ was starving, so we settled on Ruth’s Chris across the street. I know, I know. See paragraph two…
Our dinner was pretty great! I had filet mignon and the kids had the kids steak combo. Mazzy and I shared a chocolate lava cake for dessert. Yum! And to top it all off, there was an arcade right next door! Winning! The kids got one last night in at the arcade to cap off it all off. I even got to shoot a few hoops to help JJ earn a couple more “prize” tickets.
As we walked back to our hotel, the smell of misty water filled the air, the soothing sound of a truly magnificent waterfall filled our hearts, and steak filled our bellies!
